RALEIGH, NC — Christine Villaverde, candidate for US Congress District 2, has received the endorsement of Maggie’s List. Founded in 2010, Maggie’s List was created to raise awareness and funds to increase the number of conservative women elected to federal public office.
Maggie’s List was named after Margaret “Maggie” Chase Smith, the first woman elected to both houses of Congress. Maggie served in the U.S. House from 1940 – 1948 and the U.S. Senate from 1948 – 1972. Maggie became the first woman to have her name placed in nomination for the presidency by either of the two major parties in 1964.
North Carolina State Director for Maggie’s List, Martha Jenkins, said, “As the North Carolina Director for Maggie’s List, I am proud that we are backing a candidate of Christine Villaverde’s caliber. Christine has a unique background to bring to Washington, and she will be a great U.S. Congresswoman.”
Christine Villaverde stated, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Maggie’s List. Maggie Smith was a stalwart Republican woman who was ahead of her time. She believed deeply in American liberties and placed American ideals above party. I hope to join her and many other women who have served their country and defended our liberties in the halls of Congress.”
